Authors : L. Di Berardino, G.C. Lozzia, L. Mariani, F. Ottoboni, G. Piu, I.E. Rigamonti

"We had a dream". After years spent in field-work on the mites, we have decided to put our efforts into spreading knowledge of the beautiful and terrifying world of mites. It is true that mites and ticks can cause many medical, economic and even psychological problems. Some people, in fact, develop a true "Mites- phobias". Much of this is based on fear and lack of knowledge. The more you know, the less you fear and the more you will start to appreciate the charming world of these small companions in life.

With the year 2000 coming, what better way is there then Internet technology to communicate knowledge in Acarology? This technology gives us the means to exchange information in real time, no longer on individual basis, between loner acarologist, but on a multidisciplinary level between biologists, clinicians, scientists, veterinarians etc.

We want this to be a living, electronic and interactive book, that will growth like a living organism. It will be enriched every month with the contribution of the collaborators and the readers. Therefore, whoever is interested is invited to contribute with text, pictures, bibliography or other material. Criticisms and corrections are welcome!

We thank all scientists, alive and in memoriam, for their love, devotion and contributions to the understanding of mites and ticks. We have and will try to bundle their contributions into this Web site and we take the full responsibility of any error that might have slipped in and will ascribe the merits to the scientists who will contribute.

Thanks in advance for making this happen.
