Methane
CH4
 |
| Methane
is used for cooking, for hot water production and for heating. One
third of the methane supplied in Italy comes from our national
reserves, while two thirds are imported from Russia, Algeria, Holland
and Norway. At first it's distribution is carried out at a national
level through large gas pipes. Later on sub-system of distribution
supplies the Methane at a local level. The national gas- pipe system
is 29,300 Km long. It is through it that Methane is supplied to over
700 societies for the local distribution. |

Methane
is clean energy
Methane is an ecological energy source because
its combustion produces maily steam and carbon dioxide.

Camuzzi
Society
Camuzzi society is an international society which distributes Methane
to several italien cities and their districts: Biella, Brindisi,
Chieti, Lecce, Massa, Pescara, Piacenza, Taranto, Terni, Treviso and
Viterbo. |

| Electric
Energy
In Italy it is produced and deliverd by ENEL. This society has two
big thermoelectric power stations in Brindisi: North Brindisi power
station (active from 1969) and South Brindisi power station
"Cerano" (active from 1991). Both of them meet the
needds of energy of most Southern Italy. The fuels used are
combustibible oil, gas-oil, natural gas and coal. |

Enviromental
Data
The reduction of sulphurous anhydride outlets is due
mostly to the improvement of the fuel mixture.

Electricity in our homes
The line with a 220V tension coming from the transformer room
reaches our homes. You can find a general switch at the entrance of
any house. Usually it is situated outside the flat, in the basement or
at the entrance of building. Its ainv is stopping the current supply
to the flat for safety motives. Next to the general switch there is an
electric power-meter indicating the electric energy supplied to the
flat.

Water ways

The Pugliese Aqueduct (AQP) has a pipe network over 20,000 Km long, which supplies Puglia, Basilicata, Irpinia and in part Calabria and
Molise. Its flow is over 20,000 l per second. The Pugliese Aqueduct supplies about 5,000,000 in habitants with an excellent quality of water.
The AQP runs the whole cycle of water: from picking up, distibution, purifying, solftening to draining and recycling of refluent water. The AQP has 19,579 Km water pipe network to run. It supplies 4,623,349 in habitants
; it brings in its pipe network 302,446,389 cubicmetres of drinkable water. That's why AQP is the first aqueduct in Europe and the third in the world.

The sources of supply in Brindisi are: 50% from Pertusillo and 50% from Sinni. In Brindisi there are 18 water conditioner systems. Another source of supply is the exploitation of superficial water. In order to store up the raiw water which
contributes to feed a river, barriers a dikes are built on it.
|
Pollution of the waste waters Generally,
the waste waters from industries cities and farms are polluted: they contain substances which can change their chemical-physical characteristics causing serious damage or danger to men, animals and
flora. As a consequence they can alter the ecological balance.
Water conditioner systems They are used to eliminate pulluting substances from refluent water.
When the purifying process is carried out the water is sent back to the sea or to the subsoil.
