This class was in the course C of a Scientific
school of Matera, a town of 60,000 inhabitants in
the south of Italy. This is a way to remember
school years and to keep in touch each other.
So you can find class-photos of the 5 years,
funny episodes of students and teachers,
description of class travel in Tuscany with
photos, news from Corso C, VoteCaster about
school year, GuestBook with messagges of
students and people, and much more...

We have not pages in English, but you can see
with no difficulty the photos of the 5 years, and
you can also sign GuestBook. We are sorry, but

School in Italy

In Italy almost all schools are public and only
a small percentage is private. Education is free
for everyone, and is compulsory for all child
till 16. ( because of a new law, before 1998 till 14).
Italian Educational System is divided into:

-Scuola Materna: three years, age: 3,4,5.
The same for everyone, not compulsory.

-Scuola Elementare: 5 years, age:6-10.
The same for everyone, compulsory.
Basic studies.

-Scuola Media: 3 years, age:11,12,13.
The same for everyone, compulsory.
Scuola media teach Italian grammar and literature,
Science, Mathematic, Music, History, Geography, English
or French, History of Art, Religion, Technical subjects.

-Scuole Superiori, 5 years (sometimes 4), age:14-18.
Corso C was here.
First and second year compulsory, last three year
not compulsory. It's divided in many kinds:

Liceo Classico
    (classical studies: Greek, Latin)
Liceo Scientifico
    (scientific studies)
Liceo Linguistico
(to learn foreing language and literature)
Conservatorio
    (to learn a musical instrument)
    Technical and commercial schools:
Istituti Tecnici, Ragionerie, Geometra.
Istituti Professionali.
(this school teach a job as workman)
All school teach Italian,
Mathematics, English, History.

-Universita'. The upper level of education (except Master),
4 or 5 years. (Only few universities last
3 years and give a "laurea breve" or
short degree). After 25 (sometimes more) examinations,
universities give Laurea, and people became "Dottore".
There is every kind of universities,
see their WebSites.

A deep change will soon come in
Italian school, the most important is:

-First and Second year of Scuole Superiori
will be put togheter with Scuola Media's
three years, so in the next years
the description you have read will change!

Info about Matera

Matera is one of the most original
city in the world and is enlisted in the
UNESCO World heritage list. His ancient
part, called "Sassi", has been always
inhabited from Man, and houses, churches,
gardens and roads aren't built,
but carved on the rock.
In fact Sassi are on a deep rave,
similar to a canyon.
Nowadays nobody lives in Sassi (it's
better to say only few people, but
some decades ago 20,000 persons
lived there). When in the night
you see it, lights of Sassi
seems to be a sky full of stars...
