I don't like PICs because old models (16xxx) don't have a flexible stack and are quite difficult to program (in some ways they remind me an Intel processor), while new models (18xxx) don't have a C++ compiler. You can find a C++ compiler for the old models here If you are new to MCU programming try to read the articles I wrote in 1998 for the Italian magazine IoProgrammo.
