I think the planning step is the most important in our hobby because, if well defined, it can keep us away from regrets and wasting of time and work. The first decision to make (after, of course, the choice of the scale) is how much space we dispose to realize our work: it's better to begin with a small layout than a big project that probably will not see the conclusion.

You shall be very critic, because the enthusiasm always make us think greater than our real possibility!

After having decided the location of the layout (taking in mind that each section of the railroad should be reached), great care shall be paid to choose the supports. I prefer a frame structure, composed by wood frames (15 centimeters high and 2 centimeters thick) sustained by some wooden easels. The railroad and the landscape will be sheltered inside the frame.
