Women's job in Venice during the 19 th and 21 st century
Beginning with the second half of the 19th century, the "conterie" (Murano factories for the production of beads) use to give beads stringing at home.
Following biographic stories of the "impiraresse" (beads-threader) this kind of work took up almost every women in the city.
Easy to imagine that such a work requires a lot of patience and a certain skill to string the beads, to twist and mould the thread in order to create leaves and flowers.
Recently some of the Venice Ladies find their inspiration in this old tradition and offer wonderful handicrafts made with Murano beads like: leaves, flowers, embroideries that charms people who love handmade decoration.
