Con le sue composizioni Luis Bacalov ha sempre agito sulle atmosfere delle opere valorizzandone il montaggio, i dialoghi, i toni delle immagini riuscendo a contribuire notevolmente alla qualità dei film con musiche di particolare valore. Le sue opere si distinguono spesso per un'originale fusione e sintesi che ha radici in tradizioni musicali diverse, eseguite con strumenti e ritmi insoliti. Accanto a brani sperimentali ha saputo creare delle opere che ottengono grandi consensi dal pubblico e dagli addetti ai lavori, come nel caso del film Il Postino che lo ha gratificato con il Premio Oscar.

With his compositions, Luis Bacalov has always concentrated on the atmospheres of the work, carefully considering its editing, dialogues, and the sensations conveyed by the images, thus bringing a considerable contribution to the quality of the movie with music of special value. His works often distinguish themselves by an original mixture and combination which has its roots in various traditional music, carried out with unusual instruments and rhythms. Along with experimental pieces he has been able to create works which earned wide success among the public and the experts, as was the case with the movie The Postman which won him the Academy Award.
