Photo: Panoramic view of Targu Ocna
Targu
Ocna (or Tirgu Ocna) is a village of about 14.000 inhabitants, hidden in a
mountain depression, which protect it from cold in winter and give it the
typical mountain breeze freshness in summer. Its
geomorphic diversity (hills, mountains) has always offered its inhabitants
a great variety of products to explore (carbon, mineral waters, petrol,
building materials).
But
that which decided especially the commercial development of the place was the
extraction and working of salt from the rock-salt mine.
Thanks
to the hilly and mountain scenery, the place is rich in marvellous landscapes
offered by the coniferous, latifoglie forests, by the spreads of orchards and by
the hay stacks
worked by the peasants.
In
autumn one can admire, on the hilly areas, the variegated colours of the foliage
in transformation.
Very
important for the village is the thermal aspect. The first mineral springs were discovered in 1846 on the place where today the Magura Park stands, at the feet of one of the mountains overlooking the village. Today various treatments to various cures can be performed in the main city-centre hotel. Targu Ocna is a thermal resort of national and international interest.
